Prior to 1.1.1, the MQTT broker does not bound topic depth or structural complexity before passing topics through `mqemitter` into `qlobber`. A `PUBLISH`, `SUBSCRIBE`, or registered `Will` message containing an excessively deep topic can reach `qlobber._split_words` in `lib/qlobber.js` and trigger an uncaught `too many words` exception. Calls from `handlers/subscribe.js` and the publishing logic are not protected against that exception, so it escapes to the `Node.js event loop` and terminates the entire broker. The `Will` path is independently reachable when a client disconnects ungracefully: it calls `broker.publish` directly and bypasses the `PUBLISH` handler. An attacker must be able to establish an `MQTT session`, authenticated or unauthenticated according to broker configuration. A successful attack disconnects all legitimate clients and prevents reconnection until the broker process restarts. This issue is fixed in version 1.1.1.","score":7.5,"severity":"high","published":"2026-10-30T22:09:50.280Z","modified":"2026-10-30T22:09:50.280Z","withdrawn":false,"knownExploited":false,"affected":[],"products":[{"vendor":"moscajs","name":"aedes","platforms":[],"versions":[{"version":"< 1.1.1","status":"affected"}],"cpes":[],"source":"GitHub_M","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-63341"}],"remediation":[],"references":["https://github.com/moscajs/aedes/security/advisories/GHSA-xxqp-5qx8-gj5q","https://github.com/moscajs/aedes/commit/b9024faa4cb416c4c6980760b4d7f55336315f2d","https://github.com/moscajs/aedes/releases/tag/v1.1.1"],"sources":[{"name":"CVE","id":"CVE-2026-63341","modified":"2026-10-30T22:09:50.280Z","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-63341"}],"assessments":[{"source":"GitHub_M","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5}],"sourceAffected":[],"observedAt":"2026-10-30T22:48:14.923Z","kev":{"status":"not-listed","checkedAt":"2026-10-31T03:00:34.533Z"},"coverage":[{"source":"NVD","status":"available","checkedAt":"2026-10-30T23:20:31.268Z","attemptedAt":"2026-10-30T23:20:31.268Z"},{"source":"GHSA","status":"no-result","checkedAt":"2026-10-30T23:20:31.148Z","attemptedAt":"2026-10-30T23:20:31.148Z"},{"source":"EUVD","status":"no-result","checkedAt":"2026-10-30T23:15:37.137Z","attemptedAt":"2026-10-30T23:15:37.137Z"},{"source":"EPSS","status":"no-result","checkedAt":"2026-10-30T23:15:36.209Z","attemptedAt":"2026-10-30T23:15:36.209Z"}],"evidence":[{"source":"NVD","id":"CVE-2026-63341","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-63341","modified":"2026-10-30T23:17:13.690","score":7.5,"vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","checkedAt":"2026-10-30T23:20:31.268Z"}],"aiSummary":{"text":"Aedes MQTT broker versions prior to 1.1.1 are vulnerable to uncaught exceptions and uncontrolled resource consumption.
