A file name counts as unused when nothing exists at that path, which holds for a dangling symlink, and the body file is then opened in a way that follows the link.\n\nWhen the output base is writable by other users, as with output_under(\"/tmp\"), a local user can pre-create the directory with a symlink named like an attachment. The parser then writes the attachment to the link target with the privileges of the parsing process.","score":null,"severity":"unknown","published":"2026-10-28T17:34:06.757Z","modified":"2026-10-28T17:34:06.757Z","withdrawn":false,"knownExploited":false,"affected":[],"products":[{"vendor":"","name":"MIME-tools","platforms":[],"versions":[{"version":"0","status":"affected","lessThan":"5.521","versionType":"custom"}],"defaultStatus":"unaffected","packageURL":"pkg:cpan/MIME-tools","cpes":[],"source":"CPANSec","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-116271"}],"remediation":[{"text":"Upgrade to MIME-tools 5.521 or later.","source":"CPANSec","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-116271"}],"references":["https://metacpan.org/release/DSKOLL/MIME-tools-5.521/changes"],"sources":[{"name":"CVE","id":"CVE-2026-116271","modified":"2026-10-28T17:34:06.757Z","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-116271"}],"assessments":[],"sourceAffected":[],"observedAt":"2026-10-29T14:34:58.783Z","kev":{"status":"not-listed","checkedAt":"2026-10-31T04:10:31.776Z"},"coverage":[{"source":"NVD","status":"no-result","checkedAt":"2026-10-28T18:00:32.526Z","attemptedAt":"2026-10-28T18:00:32.526Z"},{"source":"GHSA","status":"no-result","checkedAt":"2026-10-28T18:00:32.530Z","attemptedAt":"2026-10-28T18:00:32.530Z"},{"source":"EUVD","status":"available","checkedAt":"2026-10-28T18:00:32.201Z","attemptedAt":"2026-10-28T18:00:32.201Z"},{"source":"EPSS","status":"no-result","checkedAt":"2026-10-28T18:00:31.832Z","attemptedAt":"2026-10-28T18:00:31.832Z"}],"evidence":[{"source":"ENISA EUVD","id":"EUVD-2026-112304","url":"https://euvd.enisa.europa.eu/vulnerability/EUVD-2026-112304","modified":"Oct 28, 2026, 5:34:06 PM","checkedAt":"2026-10-28T18:00:32.201Z"}],"aiSummary":{"text":"MIME::Parser::FileUnder versions before 5.521 for Perl may allow local users to redirect attachment writes by reusing a pre-created output directory and following symlinks in it.
