Gimp: gimp: stack buffer overflow in psd image resource header loader

Impact

A stack buffer overflow weakness in GIMP's PSD image resource header loader may cause a crash when opening a crafted PSD file. The attacker needs access to the system to open the malicious file. The impact is a crash and potentially arbitrary code execution.

Summarized by @cf/meta/llama-3.3-70b-instruct-fp8-fast. Verify details against the original sources.

What to do

Do not open untrusted PSD files in GIMP. Avoid browsing directories containing untrusted PSD files in GIMP’s file dialog if thumbnail/preview loading may parse PSD resources. If GIMP is not required, remove the gimp package.

Original source description

A flaw was found in GIMP. The PSD plug-in’s image resource header loader uses an incorrect destination size when copying a converted resource name into a fixed stack buffer. Opening a crafted PSD file can cause a stack-based buffer overflow, leading to a crash and potentially arbitrary code execution.
