What this means
OpenBao versions before 2.6.4 and 2.7.0 before 2.7.1 have an improper audit logging weakness, allowing attackers to complete root token generation or rekey operations without a corresponding response audit record. This affects unauthenticated sys/generate-root, sys/rekey, and sys/rekey-recovery-key endpoints. An attacker can exploit this without authentication.

What to do
Compare your installed product and version with the affected versions above. A matching product name alone does not confirm exposure.
No structured fix or remediation guidance is available here. Check the full source description and vendor’s latest advisory for a patch or workaround; do not assume another version is safe.

Public exploit evidence
No public exploit reference is identified in the imported evidence. This is not a claim that no exploit exists.
Original source description
Read the full publisher description
OpenBao before 2.6.4 and 2.7.x before 2.7.1 fails to write response audit entries for the unauthenticated sys/generate-root, sys/rekey, and sys/rekey-recovery-key endpoints when request audit logging succeeds but response audit logging fails. An attacker using these endpoints can complete root token generation or rekey operations without a corresponding response audit record, hindering forensic detection.
